Sinn Fein has confirmed that Deputy Martin Kenny is seeking legal advice in relation to alleged comments made about him by a Leitrim Councillor.
Ita Reynolds Flynn has lodged a formal complaint with the Oireachtas committee on Procedure and Privilege after Deputy Kenny verbally abused her at a meeting in the Dáil last month about plans to develop accommodation for asylum seekers in Ballinamore.
In a statement to Shannonside FM, the Sinn Fein Press Office says that Deputy Kenny has apologised to the Fine Gael Councillor for the comments and that the apology was accepted.
It says that the issue arose on the back of an allegation made about the Sligo Leitrim TD, which is currently in the hands of his legal advisers.
The party says it has no further comment to add.
