Sinn Fein is seeking cross party support on the establishment of a single agency to oversee the management of the River Shannon.
It's introduced the River Shannon Management Agency Bill to the Dáil, which would see one agency provide effective management, effective protection and preparednes for flooding events.
Currently there are 20 agencies from ESB to Waterways Ireland to Local Authorities involved in water management and maintenance of the River Shannon.
The position of Minister for Flooding has been discarded, and flooding has been removed from the title of Office of Public Works, together with dedicated personnel and resources to proritise the issue.
Leitrim TD Martin Kenny says there should be no reason why all parties cannot support a single agency.
