Significant drop in burglaries reported in Leitrim

Burglaries in Leitrim have dropped by nearly a half during 2018.

The county’s Joint Policing Committee heard today that assaults have also decreased by almost a fifth up to the end of last month.

Committee members were told that last Wednesday 7 people were arrested in Carrick-on-Shannon in relation to alleged thefts and a number have already been before the counts.

Chief Superintendent Aidan Glackin said the downward trend in certain types of crime especially burglary and assaults is to be welcomed.
