Farmers are being advised to take action now and to seek help if they feel they have a fodder shortage coming down the line.
Many farmers in the Shannonside – Northern Sound region are facing serious fodder shortages, following poor weather conditions in the summer and autumn.
It comes as farm organisations are demanding action from the Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed to support farmers hit by the fodder crisis.
A recent Teagasc survey has found that a small number of farmers have sufficient feed to see them through the winter and in exceptional cases, others have already used all their fodder stocks.
