Saved: Carrigallen Text Alert averts closure

One of the longest running text alert schemes in the county is set to continue after the community of south Leitrim rallied around to support it in the past number of weeks.

It had been feared that the Carrigallen Text Alert may not be active this winter because of a drop in the number of people who had signed up for the scheme, which alerts people in the community to possible crime or suspicious activity.

But after an appeal earlier this month, more than 200 people have now signed up for the scheme, which should ensure of its survival well into 2019 and beyond.

The chairman of the text alert, Neville Patterson, is delighted the scheme will continue.
