Save Leitrim demonstrate concerns over forestry outside Agri offices in Drumshanbo

The Save Leitrim group which is opposing the planting of more sitka spruce forestry across the county say they will fight on and use every opportunity to highlight the situation.

The group held a demonstration earlier today outside the Department of Agriculture offices in Drumshanbo where a training day was being held for people in the forestry sector.

Group spokesperson councillor Justin Warnock says protests like today’s need to continue so the government is aware that people in the county won’t give up their fight.

He says with all the new emphasis on climate action the group believes that the planting of more trees on bogland is contributing significantly to the destruction of the local biodiversity and habitat.
