A leading roads expert is calling on Transport Infrastructure Ireland to be open to changing their policy on lighting on motorways.
TII has been dimming or turning off lights at many of the states motorway junctions since September in line with a directive on climate action from the EU.
It has also come into effect on the dual carriageway relief road, in Athlone where there can be tractors and cyclists using the road.
Cllr Paul Hogan says while he understands that less lighting is required, having no lights at all is excessive.
Speaking on Let’s Talk today, TII spokesperson Sean O’ Neill says while they will monitor the situation, it’s not likely to change.
But Conor Faughnan, Policy Director with AA Roadwatch says they need to be more flexible.
