Renewed warning on thefts from cars at graveyards

Gardaí are warning people to be extra careful about leaving valuables in their cars at this time of the year.

Sergeant Jim Fox who is the Crime Prevention Officer of the Sligo/Leitrim division says many thefts are opportunistic, especially from cars.

He says many people will be visiting graveyards over the coming weeks with flowers or wreaths and this can lead to handbags being left behind in the car.

Sergeant Fox says this kind of theft is still a big issue in rural areas and the thieves see the situation as an easy target.
