A Leitrim native who has achieved bronze, silver and gold Gáisce awards wants to see more people doing it.
Hailing from Carrick-on-Shannon, Rebecca Duffy received her gold award at a ceremony with 77 other awardees at Dublin Castle this week.
The awards are given to young people between the ages of 15 and 25 for social and community work completed over the course of 26 weeks for bronze, 52 weeks for silver and 78 weeks for gold.
This year’s awardees hail from 17 counties and join a total 190,000 young people who have achieved an award in the initiative’s 34 year history.
According to Rebecca, the award can drive you on in other areas of life, and although it took her longer to complete than she expected it was all worth it.
