A public consultation on constraints for the N4 Carrick-on-Shannon to Dromod project is to begin in early October.

It's after Transport Infrastructure Ireland granted approval for Leitrim County Council to advance to phase two of the project.

Original plans for a bypass of Carrick on Shannon were due to go to CPO around 10 years ago, but they were shelved due to the financial crash.

The planning and design process started all over again in February 2020 when Arup Consulting Engineers were appointed by Leitrim County Council to work on the project.

Phase One has identified the need for investment to address the issues with the transport corridor, including the traffic congestion in Carrick on Shannon.

The next step is a consultation inviting submissions from members of the public from October 4th, to highlight obstacles in the area that they feel need to be considered as part of the project which is likely to see a route corridor sweeping either north or south around Carrick on Shannon into Cortober.

Project details have been presented to local county councillors in Leitrim and Roscommon recently.

Cllr John Cummins of Boyle Municipal District says he hopes it's a case of third time lucky and that the project gets to completion this time out.

In a statement to Shannonside Northern sound, Leitrim County Council says the consultation will be web based and advertised in local papers and it will be one of many opportunities for the public to engage with the process.
