Post-mortem expected to take place today on body of Leitrim man found in Clifden

A post-mortem is expected to take place later today on the remains of a man found in Clifden last night.

The body was recovered as part of a search for missing Carrigallen man Cathal Whelan who was reported missing in the Galway town last week.

Gardai confirmed last night that a body was found at around teatime in the town and thanked everyone who had been searching since last week for their efforts.

They are not treating the discovery of the body as suspicious.
