Plans to reduce the amount of on-street car parking in Carrick-on-Shannon are being strongly opposed by a number of local businesses.
Yesterday’s meeting of Carrick municipal district heard the decision had already been made to remove spaces from various streets in the town centre.
But a new car park, with 105 spaces, will be developed in Flynn’s Field.
Yet three businessmen – Martin Kelly, Brendan Kieran and Michael Masterson – told Eoghan Murphy after the meeting why they oppose the reduction of on-street car parking.
Mr Kelly first gave his thoughts.
Several councillors expressed reservations about the removal of car-parking spaces, but council officials insist they themselves approved such a plan last month.
But Independent councillor Des Guckian believes the decision can be reversed, despite official saying otherwise.
