The Communications Minister is to be called on to explain why the roll-out of high speed broadband in Leitrim is experiencing delays.
The call comes after some areas, such as Drumkeerin, have seen the deadlines promised by Eir under their 300K project missed twice.
Around four thousand households and businesses in the county are expecting fibre broadband under the scheme, which is separate to the National Broadband Plan, but so far only around a third have been connected.
This week, Leitrim councillors supported a motion to put pressure on Richard Bruton to explain why broadband isn’t being rolled out as quickly as promised.
Fianna Fail councillor Mary Bohan says it’s very disappointing that the service is taking so long and that the deadline, which has now been put back to the end of June for many places, keeps changing.
