No ‘older age’ mental health beds in Longford, Leitrim or Roscommon

None of the Shannonside counties have any ‘older age’ acute mental health beds.

According to a report by the Mental Health Commission, nowhere in the country has the recommended number of beds, with Leitrim, Longford and Roscommon joining sixteen other counties with no beds whatsoever.

It’s recommended the provision of 127 older age beds nationwide, but currently there are just 56.

Author of the report Dr Margo Wrigley says different age groups tend to need different types of cares.
