No factories to benefit from €100 million beef fund

The Minister for Agriculture has confirmed that no factories will be able to benefit from a new fund set up to help beef farmers affected by Brexit.

A €100m fund is being provided to Irish farmers through an EU scheme which is being matched by government funding.

Michael Creed told the Joe Finnegan show this morning that consultation will have to take place with the industry to identify the best way to help farmers affected by the lowering production margins involved in beef farming.

He also ruled out any chance that beef factories, which have been criticised for not increasing their prices for animals will also be able to apply for compensation.
