A new book on the history of Leitrim will be officially launched at the council offices in Carrick-on-Shannon this evening and the public are being invited to attend.
The book is number 27 in a series of such county histories which have been published since 1985 and are the brain child of Professor William Nolan of UCD.
The title of the book is “Leitrim: History and Society” and contains 35 chapters written by different people.
Some contributors are academics with a specialist knowledge of the county, but many have also been written by local people, with chapters dedicated to sport in the county since 1850, and another on Leitrim politics and society.
The book has been edited by local editors, Monsignor Liam Kelly and historian Dr Brendan Scott who lives outside Drumshanbo, and there are just 500 copies being published.
James Wrynn who’s originally from Fenagh was asked to write a chapter on Jimmy Gralton for the book.
He says he believes a lot of people will be interested in the way the history is being told in this volume.
