New forestry representative group hopeful key local concerns will be addressed

A newly established forestry representative group is hopeful that key concerns raised locally over roads and environmental impacts will be addressed by the timber industry.

Forest Industries Ireland is made up of manufacturers and companies involved in the timber industry and hopes to become the key representative body for all aspects of the forestry sector.

It was claimed by the group this week that forestry owners, haulage companies and harvesting contractors will earn almost €600 million euro over the next 16 years in the Shannonside region.


A protest against ongoing forestry in Leitrim is to take place at the Dail at the end of this month.
