A Leitrim councillor is condemning the increase in dog fouling in Carrick on Shannon as “disrespectful” to wheelchair users and parents with buggies.
Councillor Finola Armstrong-McGuire raised the issue during the most recent Carrick-on-Shannon municipal district meeting.
In a motion, she questioned whether something further could be done to encourage proper disposal of dog foul, as people tracking it back into houses could have “serious” consequences.
Other councillors agreed to engage with the Animal Warden about house-to-house dog licence inspections and to request an increase in patrols in the region.
Speaking to Shannonside FM today, Councillor Armstrong Maguire says it’s “disappointing” that people don’t appreciate that the mess left impacts on those buggys or in wheelchairs.
