The Mandate trade Union is hoping that Tesco shoppers won’t cross the picket line in Carrick-on-Shannon on what could be the busiest shopping days ahead of Christmas.
A strike is to take place on Saturday 22nd of December, with almost 90 per cent support from workers.
They are unhappy with the lack of full time contracts and hours being offered to staff working in Carrick and also the lack of engagement from management when making unilateral changes to people’s hours, which can effect pay.
The union says that it has tried ot engage with Tesco management on these issues and there has been no communication on any level for at least a year and a half.
Ciaran Campbell is Divisional Organiser for the North West, he acknowledges that holding a strike on Saturday before Christmas is likely to have a huge effect shoppers, but he hopes people will not cross the picket line.
