A major report on rural transport is set to be launched in Carrick-on-Shannon this afternoon.
The policy document will make a series of recommendations to improve transport for rural dwellers across the country.
Four members of the 11-strong Oireachtais Committee on Rural and Community Development are expected to attend the official launch at The Hive enterprise centre.
Committee member and Fianna Fail TD for Cavan/Monaghan, Niamh Smyth says it’s hugely significant that a rural county has been chosen for the release of the report.
She says the committee believes that for far too long the Midlands and West have been neglected in terms of public transport and the emphasis of this plan is ensuring money is made available to the initiatives for rural areas.
