Low rate of convictions for driving without a licence in Leitrim

Leitrim has one of the lowest conviction rates in the country for driving without a licence.

The information released as a result of parliamentary questions by Deputy Tommy Broughan shows that Leitrim has a conviction rate of 13%, compared to 16% in Longford and a 23% conviction rate in Co Roscommon.

The conviction rates are of all cases of driving without a licence that were disposed of in Irish courts from the start of 2016 to the 12th of September this year.

The conviction rates vary hugely from county to county with a rate of just 3% and 4% recorded in Cavan and Monaghan, and the highest conviction rate of 30% in Cork.
