Uncertainty continues to surround the future of the country’s regional veterinary laboratories.
A working group appointed by the Department of Agriculture carried a comprehensive review of the laboratories in 2016 and recommended reorganisation of the central laboratory in Co Kildare.
It also proposed options for restructuring the regional labs at Clare, Athlone, Cork, Kilkenny, Limerick and Sligo.
Following the consultation, Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed approved terms of reference for a cost-benefit analysis, which will focus on the options for the future development of the regional labs proposed by the working group.
