The rent of private dwellings in the Shannonside region rose by just under 10% in 2018, according to latest report from the Residential Tenancies Board.
While the average rent in Leitrim decreased by 13 euro in the last three months of 2018 – from 530 euro to 517.
That represents a 7.7. per cent hike on the average rent in the county from 2017, which was 480 euro.
Rent has risen by over 12% in Longford through 2018, from 531 euro in the last quarter of 2017, to 596 euro in the last three months of 2018.
In Roscommon, the annual increase was 10.1%, rents in the county jumped from 559 euro at the end of 2017 to 615 euro at the end of last year.
While rents have increased in this region, it’s still the cheapest in the country, with costs a third of what they are in the east.
The highest average standardised rent in Dublin is 1,650 euro.
