Leitrim school sprints to fitness award

Carrigallen Vocational School on the Leitrim-Cavan border has been named as ‘Ireland’s Fittest Mixed School’ in a fitness challenge undertaken by thousands of students around the country.

The fitness challenge run by Irish Life for the past eight years involves students taking a fitness test before a six-week period where they get actively involved with exercise and sport, and then retaking the fitness test at the end.

Results from the Carrigallen pupils at the end of the fitness programme were the highest in the country.

School principal Declan Conboy says it’s a testament to not only the pupils from transition year who took part, but also the very good level of interest in sport in the school generally.
