Leitrim remains cheapest place in Ireland to rent property

The cost of renting a home in Roscommon in the last year has risen by over 9 percent

According to the latest Residential tenancies Board quarter three report, the cost of renting a home in the county is now on average €608.

The county with the lowest standardised average rent remains Leitrim at €518 per month. This is over 1,100 per month less expensive than rents in Dublin.


The national average rent is now 1-thousand 122 euro per month – 7 percent higher than the same time last year.

In the Shannonside region, rents in Leitrim rose 6.25 percent in the last 12 months – with the average cost of renting a property in the county in the third quarter at €518, eight euro more expensive than the middle of the year.

In Longford, the average cost of renting a property is now €571, a minor drop on figures for the earlier part of the year, but year on year represents a rise of 7.5%.

In Roscommon, rents rose by almost €420 euro in the third quarter of this year, and since 2017, rents are up 9.1%.
