A number of government departments are to come together as part of a working group in order to try and find a solution to the impasse over one-off houses in county Leitrim.
A delegation from Leitrim County Council met with the Junior Housing minister, Damien English in the Dáil on Wednesday afternoon, hoping to discuss methods on easing sewerage and EPA regulations around one-off homes. It’s hoped that the group will be able to develop a study and options for the local authority to be able to allow permission be granted to possible home builders, who may not meet the required percolation standard.
This group will work parallel to efforts by Sinn Fein TD Martin Kenny to bring an amendment to an environmental proposal to ease environmental regulations around the treatment of sewerage.
Cathaoirleach of Leitrim County Council Enda McGloin is hopeful the establishment of the working group is a positive step.
