Leitrim man who is Ireland’s longest living survivor of Motor Neuron Disease to celebrate 86th birthday

Preparations are being put in place to celebrate Ireland’s longest living survivor of Motor Neuron Disease this weekend.

Leitrim’s Andy Mc Govern was terminally diagnosed in 1978 and was told that the disease could prove fatal in between two and five years.

However, forty years later the Aughavas man is still alive and active as he can be with a special party planned for a local pub tomorrow night to celebrate his life.

He claims following a visit to Lourdes he was inspired to embrace technology and was able to write a book about living with the disease.

Andy, who is 86, told the Joe Finnegan show that is not just surviving, but living as well as he can:
