Leitrim County Council is joining forces with local authorities in Sligo and Mayo , and the Mayo/Sligo/Leitrim Education and Training Board in the “Click Before you Go” road safety campaign challenge.
The campaign involves SMS or text messages to all parents of schoolchildren in the three counties.
The parents of over 5,100 children will be contacted via text next Monday the 29th.
It’s hoped that by using the text service many more people will read the message directly than otherwise would via the usual social media or more traditional methods.
The “Click Before you go” campaign is centred on getting more people to put on their seatbelts before starting their journey.
A competition for schoolchildren and others in the region will also ask them to take a selfie wearing their seatbelt and post it online with the tagline Clickbeforeyougo, and their schools name.
Noel Gibbons is Road Safety Officer with Mayo County Council.
