Leitrim Circuit Court criminal trials are set to take place in Monaghan or Donegal next year.

Judge John Alymer suggested this week in court that the building in Carrick -on-Shannon is currently unsuitable to host trials amidst the pandemic.

The judge explained that unofficially he had heard that Monaghan or perhaps Letterkenny courthouses may be used for trials on the northern circuit.

A number of trials which are waiting for dates for hearing were adjourned until February of next year when the next session of the Circuit Court in Leitrim is due to sit.

Last month Longford Circuit Court heard a manslaughter trial in Mullingar in order to accommodate a jury while Roscommon Circuit Court matters are set to be moved to Mullingar or Tullamore until a new court building is developed in the town.
