Leitrim County Council is hoping the majority of works in the county will be complete before the tourism season

Leitrim County Council is hoping the majority of the streetscape enhancement works in Carrick on Shannon will be complete before the peak tourism season begins.

Footpath and roadworks in Carrick on Shannon will be resuming in the coming days after a short break for the Christmas period.

The local authority expressed its dissatisfaction with the slow pace of the works in the autumn and engaged in discussions with the contractors in an effort to see works speeded up.

Locals can expect development between the Bush Hotel and the Clock Tower junction in January as the works move through the town.

Deputy Council CE Joseph Gilhooley says May is the date they hope to see the majority of the steer works finished by.
