Leitrim County Council hopes to be able to appoint a consultant to progress flood relief works in the county early next year.
At this week’s meeting of Carrick-on-Shannon M.D, Des Guckian asked when the Council would be able to outline a timescale for flood relief works to begin from Rooskey to Leitrim village.
Responding to the query, a council official from the capital project office claimed that a consultant will be shortly appointed to begin the design work for the Carrick on Shannon Flood Defence Scheme.
The local authority has also submitted a design brief to the OPW for their approval for the appointment of a consulting engineer to commence the design work on flood defences for Leitrim Village and Mohill.
However they have no received approval to commence any work on flood defences on the remaining Shannonside villages of Jamestown, Dromod and Rooskey.
