Leitrim councillors to seek lump sum from government for local road improvements

Leitrim county councillors are to seek an urgent meeting with the Minister for Rural Affairs to appeal for extra funding for local road improvements,.

The meeting is being sought after councillors were told at their monthly meeting that there’s confusion in the county in relation to the Local Improvement Scheme.

At present there are 143 applications for funding with some people waiting for more than ten years to have work undertaken.

There’s also a further 37 applications which were received when the Local Improvement Scheme was officially closed who are in an administrative limbo.

Fianna Fail councillor Paddy O’Rourke says that councillors will impress on Minister Ring the need for an immediate lump sum to clear the backlog.
