Leitrim Councillor concerned at long delays in HSE assessment of children with developmental needs

A Leitrim councillor is expressing concern at the waiting lists for treatment for young children who have complex developmental needs.

At this morning’s meeting of Ballinamore Municipal District, Sinn Fein councillor Brendan Barry requested that the council writes to the HSE for an update on current waiting times for assessment with an early intervention team in the area.

These provide a range of services to children under six, such as occupational therapy, clinical psychology and speech and language therapy.

Councillor Barry claims previous vacancies on the team extended the waiting lists and he wants an update on what actions have been taken recently to reduce them.
