Legal action over Rooskey hotel to proceed

A high court action that could prevent the Shannon Key West Hotel at Rooskey from becoming a centre for asylum-seekers is taking place on Thursday afternoon.

In December 2016, Paradub Limited, of which Strokestown solicitor Phelim O’Neill is a director, says it entered into an option agreement with owner James Kiernan to buy the premises.

Paradub wants to turn it into a four-star hotel, but Mr Kiernan now intends leasing the premises to a different party for use as a centre for asylum-seekers. On Thursday afternoon, Paradub will ask the court for an injunction that would force Mr Kiernan to complete the sale to it, as allegedly agreed two years ago.
