Irish Water to replace Leitrim pipe responsible for outages

Irish Water hopes to begin work on replacing a section of water pipe in Leitrim affected by a number of recent bursts towards the end of this year.

Councillor Des Guickian hit out at the utility after customers in the area of Drumsna were affected by a water main burst on Friday which saw Approximately 248 homes without water for a number of hours.

In a statement today to Shannonside FM news, an Irish water spokesperson has confirmed that it is hoped work will begin in quarter four of 2017 to replace a section of the Mountcampbell water main.

Design work will need to be completed by an engineer team and the water main is set to be fully replaced by early 2018.

The contactor will carry out a detailed assessment of the water main which will facilitate the design work required to replace the water main.

Work is estimated to be completed in Q1 next year.
