Irish Rail hoping on-board security officers will reduce anti-social behaviour on local trains

Irish Rail is hoping that on board officers will help reduce the number of incidents of anti-social behaviour on train services serving the Shannonside region.

Latest figures show that incidents more than doubled on Sligo Dublin service from 15 to 40, between 2017 and 2018, there was a similar rise on the Galway Dublin route, from 22 to 47.

The company says while distressing for customers, the percentage of incidents is small, given that there were 47 million passenger journeys in 2018.

Spokesperson for Irish Rail, Jane Creegan says extra personnel on board should help the situation.
