It has been confirmed that the body found in Carrick-on-Shannon yesterday was that of missing person Declan Whyte.
A post-mortem examination was conducted in Sligo University Hospital today after the discovery of a body at Summerhill yesterday afternoon.
Gardai say his death is not being treated as suspicious.
Declan Whyte, who was 30, had lived in Leitrim for many years, but was originally from Clondalkin in Dublin.
He had been missing since February 11th and a major search operation had been under way in an attempt to locate him.
Superintendent Kevin English thanked all those involved in the search operation, particularly those in the greater Summerhill area.
In a message on Facebook last night, his sister Gemma described yesterday’s discovery as ‘the news we never wanted’ and thanked people for their help and prayers.
