Progress on a new facility to replace the old St Patrick's nursing home in Carrick-on-Shannon has taken a step further today.

The HSE North West is submitting a planning application to Leitrim council to build a new 90 bed community nursing unit on lands at Ballynamoney.

The development will involve a 2 storey split-level building which will have 50 long stay beds, 20 short stay beds, and 20 beds for people who have dementia.

The application also includes plans for a designated Rehab facility.

A new site access road off the R280 is also part of the plans, as well as 90 new car parking spaces and E-Car charging bays.

Submissions and observations can be made on the application for a five week period after it is officially received by the local council.
