Sinn Féin TD Martin Kenny admits concerns raised about sufficient training at a mental health facility for Sligo-Leitrim is very concerning.
A report from the Mental Health Commission, published on Thursday, highlighted 19 areas of noncompliance with regulations, with seven deemed to be high risk, and once critical.
Inspectors found that staff training fell short of requirements and that on the first day of inspection, none of the nursing staff on duty had up-to-date training in fire safety or basic life-support.
It was deemed to be noncompliant with a high-risk rating.
The HSE responded to the report by claiming that many of the issues had already been addressed.
The Sligo-Leitrim TD admits the HSE has major issues to address in relation to upgrading the staff’s skills.
