Homeware goods store planned for Carrick

Planning permission is being sought for a new homeware goods store at a renowned business premises in Carrick-on-Shannon.

About five years ago, Joe Simon Building Supplies, from Boyle, bought the Gilmartin’s Cash and Carry site at Dublin Road.

In 2015, it was given permission to change the use of the building to a hardware retail store.

However, Joe Simon says it has since been decided it’s too small for that and he’s now applying to again change the use of the building, this time to a bulk homecare goods store.

The premises would be divided into individual units.

The application will be lodged with Leitrim County Council shortly.

The premises has been suggested as a suitable base for Lidl, which is seeking to change location in Carrick.
