Garda investigating after two major security alerts at Leitrim supermarkets in 24 hours

Gardai in Leitrim are investigating after a second large supermarket in the county was evacuated following an alleged bomb scare in just 24 hours.

Staff and customers were safely removed from Tesco in Carrick-on-Shannon this afternoon  around 2pm after staff reported receiving a phone call about a suspicious device which may have been left on the premises.

Staff and dozens of customers were safely escorted to the car park at Attifinlay while Gardai carried out a search of the premises but nothing was discovered and customers were allowed back into the store just after 3.30pm.

The incident comes just 24 hours after a supermarket in Manorhamilton was also evacuated following an alleged bomb scare on Tuesday.

Customers and staff were also evacuated in that incident but its understood nothing suspicious was discovered.

A Garda spokesperson has confirmed they are investigating both incidents but have no evidence yet to suggest there is a connection between the two.
