Funding of €200,000 approved for design of Carrick’s new Hartley Bridge

The government has confirmed that money will be made available for the planning and design of a new Hartley bridge in Carrick-on-Shannon.

A structural report into the bridge recently highlighted concerns over its suitability for processing traffic with ongoing weight restrictions on the vital River Shannon crossing point.

The €200,000 funding has been provided by the Minister for Transport, and it’s hoped that the design process can be completed later this year, with construction on a new bridge beginning in 2019.
