Leitrim GAA should not be vilified or sanctioned for not being able to field a team for its weekend Allianz Football League game against Down.

Leitrim GAA should not be vilified or sanctioned for not being able to field a team for its weekend Allianz Football League game against Down.

That's according to former Leitrim Connacht Championship winning manager John O'Mahony who made the comments after players were unable to travel for the fixture because they were awaiting Covid-19 test results.

Speaking on today's Joe Finnegan Show, O'Mahony said it wouldn't be fair to comment on how Leitrim GAA has run its affairs, but he admitted he was saddened to see that it was the only county in the country that couldn't field a team.

He also said there is a significant difference between how local club and intercounty competitions are operated and celebrated.
