Forestry trade group claims €300m to be earned by timber companies in Leitrim up to 2035

A new trade association claims that forestry owners, haulage companies and harvesting contractors will earn almost €600 million euro over the next 16 years in the Shannonside region.

Forest Industries Ireland claims that as forestry in the region matures and becomes ready for harvesting, thousands of jobs will be created in timber processing industries.

The FII estimates that by 2035 there will be an additional 6 thousand rural jobs and the industry’s combined turnover will double.

In Leitrim it estimates that up to €300million will be earned by various groups associated with forestry, in Roscommon forestry will be worth €227million to the local economy and in Longford €65million will be processed through timber-associated industries.
