Flood measure announcement in Carrick-on-Shannon this morning

An announcement of measures to help assess and address flood risk along the Shannon is expected later this morning when OPW Minister Kevin Boxer Moran attends a meeting of Leitrim County Council.

The Minister of State will meet with members of the council to discuss arrangements for the advancement of flood relief schemes in the county as part of the government investment of €1 billion euro on Flood Relief under Project Ireland 2040.

He will also set out other co-ordinated initiatives by members of the Shannon Flood Risk State Agency Co-ordination Working Group to help manage the flood risk for those living and working near the Shannon.

The Athlone based TD says they’ve been taking a closer look at the old channel and how that could play a part in alleviating flooding, as well as pinch points in this region.
