Fine Gael’s director of organisation is hopeful the party will be able to confirm a second candidate for Sligo-Leitrim in the coming weeks.
The northwest constituency is the last area in the country where the party has not yet confirmed its general Election ticket – with speculation suggesting that the country may be going to the polls early next year.
Senator Frank Feighan is currently the only selected candidate for the party after the original two candidates selected at convention in the summer of 2018 pulled out this year.
Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe was in Roscommon today where he launched a new strategy to attract emigrants back to the region.
He told Shannonside FM that no decision has been made yet on another candidate for Sligo-Leitrim – but the party knows they need a running mate for the Boyle senator soon
