Feighan acknowledges role as Director of Elections for Maria Walsh may have led to him being choice for party in Sligo Leitrim

Roscommon based Senator Frank Feighan is acknowledging that his recent role as Director of Elections for MEP Maria Walsh did him no harm when the party was looking for a new general election candidates for Sligo Leitrim in recent weeks.

The former TD who’s from Boyle had also acted as Director of Elections for Sligo Leitrim in 2016 when Gerry Reynolds came close to taking a seat for the party.

Senator Feighan had decided not to contest recent elections partially as a result of the fallout from the Roscommon hospital Accident and Emergency controversy.

He was chosen last night from a field of several candidates who had expressed an interest in running for the party after Gerry Reynolds withdrew two weeks ago.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, Senator Feighan says his role with Maria Walsh’s successful campaign may well have played a part in him being chosen to contest for the party again.
