Fears Leitrim could be homeless tourism target

People from other counties may be presenting as homeless to Leitrim council because they think it will be easier to get a house there.

That’s according to Leitrim Sinn Fein Cllr Seadhna Logan who says figures he was given by the council recently suggest that some people are trying their luck in the county.

He says he is concerned to find there have already been 11 instances of people presenting to the council as homeless in the first three months of this year, compared with a total of 25 for the entire year in 2017.

Councillor Logan says he believes people are coming to the county because of a false impression that it’s easier to get housing in Leitrim.

He says it’s something that should be investigated further and identified as an issue if it is true.
