30 European Alliance delegates from across the EU will gather at Lough Rynn Castle in Mohill today for a meeting on towns and villages driving rural revival.
The meeting has been organised by Leitrim councillor Enda Stenson who is one of nine Irish councillors who are members of the EU’s Committee of the Regions.
The role of the Committee is to involve regional and local authorities in the EU’s decision making process.
Councillor Stenson explains that each member is allowed to host a meeting in their own country to discuss a particular topic, and he’s delighted to have been able to bring visitors to the area.
He says the visit should be of benefit from a tourism point of view, as well as hearing from speakers such as the Scottish Minister for Rural Affairs who’ll be outlining how they are trying to keep young people in the local areas.
