€70,000 needed for new Carrick CCTV system

A fundraising campaign is being launched to meet the costs of a state of the art community-based CCTV system for Carrick-on-Shannon.

The initiative is aimed at helping maintain the town’s reputation as a safe place to live work and visit, and last November work began on the necessary data protection, consent and technical requirements.

The government recently announced a new scheme to help community groups to apply for grant-aid up to a maximum of 40% of funding for CCTV projects, and the Carrick imitative is expected to cost in the region of €110,000.

Joe Dolan from the Bush hotel who’s chairman of the CCTV committee in Carrick-on-Shannon says raising €70,000 in the community will be challenging but he’s confident of good support, especially from the corporate sector.
